I know I always say 'not for the faint of heart' but this time, I mean it.
This collection of short stories is full of suspense, thrill, sex, violence and takes Christianity to the next level. But it didn't start out that way. The first story in this collection seems like a mild, tamer tale with hidden dark undertones. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the twist from then on, although I can't help but wonder - has SNM Horror Magazine finally found my limit?
I'm as much a fan of dark fiction as the next guy. I don't mind a book that can make me cringe and perhaps that derives from my love of a writer who can make you feel ... well ... anything. I've always said that's what I want, more than anything. I want a story that makes me laugh or cry; a story that makes me feel the cold or the heat; a story that makes me want to crawl up in a ball and rock back and forth. That's what writing is all about, and for that, Black has achieved this with flying colours.
As for the writing - if I hadn't made it clear enough - Black has a knack for weaving a tale that will suck you in and scare the pants off you.
Packed full of twisted and disturbing tales, this collection of short stories will please lovers of dark fiction and then some.
