Doweyko has a knack for weaving a detailed story and tying it up with a sci fi twist that will pull you in from the very first chapters. HIs characters are strong and engaging, drawing in the reader from the get-go. However there is one outstanding talent that Doweyko possesses: The ability to write an exciting plot. And As Wings Unfurl is a perfect example of this.
An interesting look at the battle between good and evil, this story is packed with memorable characters and protagonist, Apple Bogdanski is one of many. There's a likable nature to these characters that create a strong foundation for the story. And one step further on is the mythical characters that have Doweyko's unique twist, making the overwritten subject of angels quite refreshing.
Within a complex plot that touches on sci-fi subjects we all love, lies an action-packed, exciting story that will have you glued to the pages. With vividly described scenes, readers will lose themselves within the descriptive scenes, something I look for in a book. There's nothing as wonderful as reading a story that encapsulates you, and As Wings Unfurl will do just that.
Although at times I felt a little disorientated with where the setting was, chapter to chapter, Doweyko brings the story together in the end, creating an exciting and quite lengthy arc.
It's bold. Energetic. Climatic. Half-way through the story you'll be hiding from the real world if only to get in a few more minutes of reading.
Arthur M. Doweyko has hit the mark yet again in his second novel offering, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
