The story itself is set around a curse set on the family of protagonist, Faith, generations ago. Learning of the curse, Faith sets out on a journey to break the curse to protect her unborn child. This paranormal story will keep you on the edge of your seat with each thrilling twist.
This is my first Carey novel, and I was pleasantly drawn in by the superb writing style. Carey's writing flows, even in transitioning scenes between Italy in the 1900's and California today. I was engrossed by the scenery of Italy and the wonderful depiction in the details. Not only are the scenes set up beautifully, the story line moves at a pace that will keep you lost in this world.
Like I said, I loved this book, and possibly this was because of the story line. It twists and turns and keeps you guessing. You'll be happily lost in the pages and will be left crying at the ending. It's exciting to say the least.
I enjoyed the characters in this tale, and possibly, although others may not agree, that of Faith's husband Connor. He's more complex than I first thought. I loved that I didn't love him, and again, I believe there is credit due to Carey for creating thought-provoking characters.
This story is supernatural and captivating. I would highly recommend this book to the YA paranormal readers.
