First, the characters. They were real. Captivating. Every moment spent reading this book I was engrossed; drawn into the lives of the characters. David Nbeke finds himself tangled in a mission to discover the truth, on a journey that will have him questioning everyone. He's passionate and driven; a refreshing protagonist written into a unique story.
Fletcher tells a tale of good vs evil under the setting of poaching in Kenya. The landscape of Kenya is depicted in such a vivid way, it's clear that Fletcher was passionate about getting the details right. Each scene is beautifully described, yet it's the scenes that some may find squeamish. Fletcher's writing is real. Boundless. He writes violence in a way that makes you cringe, yet it's a good thing. I've always loved a writer who can transport me from my cosy sofa to another world, even if it is violent.
This story is one that could easily be adapted to screen. There are so many twists and turns you're sure to be at the edge of your seat. As readers move on through the novel, the pace of the story accelerates until the final twist and of course the set up for book number two.
Vivid. Refreshing. Clever. This book is not one to be missed.
