Brett Matthew Graham has done a stellar job at this weirdly wonderful collection of suspenseful stories, and possibly the best in this collection comes as the very first, Dr Spindle's House, a tale that had me captured from the very first words. The concept of what happens to our deformities once they are removed from us was simply, scintillating. It may possibly be my favourite short story for its brilliantly unique idea.
Yet this is just one of the stories in this collection, and there are other gems throughout. Stories such as Jalopy, a twisted and graphic tale that will have you guessing until the very end. It's tense and in your face. The characters are rough and real. Everything about it will have you glued to the pages.
The book itself is split into three sections, the final being a series of dark poems to tie up a great read. Gripping words in short, poetic bursts finish this collection of dark and sometimes terrifying tales.
Graham's writing is straight to the point and alarmingly real. Characters that are to be feared or hated become characters you'll love to despise because they jump from the pages. Even the most disturbing conversations will capture your attention and have you cringing with dialogue bliss.
Overall, I enjoyed this collection of dark tales and poetry. Clever, shocking and expertly written, lovers of dark fiction will enjoy this refreshing read.
