1: Clara will see out her final days this series
2: Riversong is confirmed for the Christmas Special
Finally, we will see the end of Clara, and honestly, I'm not exactly sure what purpose she has served since Trensalor, except to put a band-aid on Moffat's fear to start a new series with a new doctor and a new companion again. However we are now in dire need of a fresh companion. #bringbackrory
We start in a field of hand mines, a nice play on words. Stuck in the center is a young boy who is crying out for help. A young innocent boy ... named Davros. (Cue a look of terror from the Doctor.) The big question of course is what will the Doctor do with Davros now that he has the option to leave him for dead in the field of hand mines? Is he really a good man? Will saving Davros before his evil future unfolds change the future as we know it? Because of course, we are all wondering: Who made Davros?
We then find ourselves in an alien pub where a guy dressed in a long black coat, who looks like he's riding a segway, starts questioning the patrons: 'Where is the Doctor?' Segway Man moves on to the friends of the Doctor (woo-hoo for the Shadow Proclamation!) and finally returns to Davros in the present day, who seems too be on his death bed.
Clara has a sudden involvement with unit after all of Earth's planes are suspended in mid air, however she seems to be able to offer more answers than all of Unit's trained professionals. I guess travelling with the doctor does give you the upper hand. (Whilst also offering up the best line of the episode: 'He'll go Scottish'.)
And then BAM! Missy is back. I don't know about you, but Missy is shaping up to be the best thing since ... I don't know ... Saxon. Nothing to lose, a love for manipulation. Ah yes, Hey Missy your so fine, your so fine you blow my mind. She hands Clara the Doctor's will and tricks her into travelling through time the hobo way.
Cut to 1138 A.D., and the doctor is competing in some sort of fight to the death ... and he appears before the crowd shredding a guitar and wearing Ray Bans. Is it just me, or does this seem like a blatant attempt to incorporate Peter Capaldis' guitar expertise?
After a quick exchange of words between the Doctor and Segway Man, the Doctor, Clara and Missy are escorted to Dalek territory. Once there. Missy and Clara find a way to get captured and of course they both get vaporized, even though the Doctor begs Davros to save Clara's life. However seeing we know that Clara has signed off until the Christmas Special, I'm going to assume Missy had a plan.
From here, the episode doesn't eventuate much, leaving us on the all important cliffhanger: The Doctor face to face with young-Davros and one word: 'Exterminate'.
However, the one very important question of this episode: What in god's name is on the Doctor's face? And what's with the guitar? Who is this guy? We seem to be witnessing the Doctor in a new form. A Doctor who hugs and shreds the guitar and considers the Master his friend. So why when Clara questions his new persona, does he put it down to regeneration? He did that a whole season ago. (I'm not buying it.)
Is this the breath of fresh air we needed from Capaldi long ago? Matt Smith, albeit thespian, was a different Doctor all together. Can Capaldi finally bring us back to true Doctor Who form?
