Really? A cliff hanger? After all this time?
After all of the non-fillers and exceptional get-to-the-chase episodes, you're going to leave us on the edge? Haven't we been through enough?
Last week, Maggie became suddenly ill. Ill as in bent over crying and moaning, suggesting of course that her baby is not surviving. The team decide to get her to Hilltop where the resident doctor is (remembering that they let Denise loose last week resulting in her death-by-flying-arrow) and find out exactly if this thing is going to eat her from the inside out.
The old RV comes out to play and they head off into the distant land of the unknown, only to come across a road block of - you guessed it - Saviors. They attempt a few different routes which all have another Savior blockade - apparently they just have endless men - eventually resulting in the most gruesome zombie display: Read Rover to end Red Rovers. Oh yes, that is why I watch TWD. Zombies with chains through them and bits of our beloved Apocandrians to set the mood.
Eugene comes up with a brilliant plan to save everyone by sacrificing himself and we are subjected to what looks like a goodbye scene for Eugene. There's music and hugs and its all peachy, except why in the world would they attempt to make Hilltop on foot? In an oh so very not believable way, the team stumble right into a circle of Saviors. Heaps of them. Like an army. Because, you know, they knew exactly where they were going to walk ... at night ... in the forest ... Season six, you used to be cool.
One of the Saviors Carol took down stumbles across her and shoots her twice so he can watch her die. Eventually Morgan steps in and takes care of business.
But that's about it for that story line, and it took up a third of the ninety minute episode. The only exciting thing that happened was a new group's arrival. A group with horses and battle armour. Hopefully we'll see more of them next season.
Hey, after the sleep-killings, he really needed to step up his game.
Could that final scene have been any better than it was? Well ... yes. We could have actually seen the gruesome death, not just heard it. Couldn't we have just had that? We've held on; waited patiently. Can't we just see an itty bit of head smashing?
So bets are on. Who got killed? Not Carl, because Negan said he'd remove his eye if anyone moved, and not Rick, because he was to be fed said eye. We already know the writers like to keep the characters that have been killed off in the comics, so possibly they will kill off someone who is still alive and kicking in the original story.
For kicks, I'm going to bet on Michonne, just because it's so far fetched. Eugene had his send off. Glen is the one who Negan kills first in the comics. Abraham was asking for it. Sasha had that odd moment with Abraham. Daryl and Maggie are already half dead. Who else is left?
See you in a few months for the next episode of 'Negan heart Lucille'.
